Nico: Most likely the PowerPoint cliché. I like to structure complex content and prepare and visualize it in such a way that it becomes understandable. I was happy to do that in previous jobs. I think it’s easy for me.
I am currently working as a project manager, but I also support specialist departments in content-related work in order to get the project off the ground. The goal and scope of my current project is a software implementation with the subsequent decommissioning of the old system. In project management, I also coordinate the project team and external service providers, which is a very exciting task due to the different stakeholders. Currently, the focus of the project is primarily on validating the new software.
A quick trip to Amsterdam: from Westphalia, it’s just a stone’s throw away for Nico.
What I like most are days with several deadlines, when there is a lot going on and something is constantly ringing. When I close my laptop in the evening, I know: I’ve really done something today.
I wanted to be an architect one day. As a child, I loved drawing, often houses. I thought it was great to plan things. At some point, this desire evaporated, but the fun of visualizing and planning remained.
I gained my first experience in consulting in my past in the automotive and insurance industry. After that, I also worked in project management in other companies, for example, in the PMO of a construction company. Over time, however, my desire to get to know different industries, topics and challenges grew again. That’s why I made a conscious decision to take the step back into consulting. The contact with grosse-hornke finally came via LinkedIn.
You have to expect to jump in at the deep end. I used to dare to leave my comfort zone less. Now I know that I can acquire something new in a short time. Therefore, my advice is: Dare to do something.
After work, you’ll often find Nico out in nature – or, as here, on the green.
I like to be outdoors a lot. During Corona, I discovered golf for myself. It’s a great balance to everyday office life. I also like to go hiking with friends. In the Alps, we recently made our first ridge crossing. That was just as exciting as you imagine. To the left and right, it went steeply downhill. Now we’re feeling our way to climbing.
Our goal is to climb Mont Blanc. However, this requires much more alpine experience and technical know-how than on our previous tours – for example, in dealing with crampons or with rapidly changing and extreme weather conditions. We actually wanted to do the tour in 2027, but we will probably postpone that until we have enough experience. Until then, we will keep at it, continue to gain experience and improve from tour to tour.
With the great Mont Blanc peak in sight: Nico had already been to the Zugspitze with friends this summer.
To stand on the summit of Mont Blanc one day – our colleague Nico hopes to make this dream come true in 2028. As you would expect from a project manager, he has already started preparing. And his current project demands plenty of stamina, too: a complex software implementation.
Our colleague Oliver is an optimist through and through, both at work and as a soccer fan. He lived in China for six months and was fascinated by the technological progress in the megacities. As a consultant on an IT project, he sees himself as an enabler.
Imagine you need to catch the right bus, but the schedule is in Korean. Our colleague Thilo loves to embrace new situations and different cultures. His experience shows that if you reach out to people at the right moment, you can ensure that projects reach their destination successfully.
